Traditionally speaking, there are a great number of reasons to send flowers to someone. Historically, sending flowers was used to express love, affection, or devotion to another individual; and today that tradition still holds true. In addition to the expression of love, gifting flowers has become synonymous with expressing emotions of all kinds; love, happiness, appreciation, sadness and sympathy, empathy, and understanding, – pretty much stating- if there is an emotion, there is likely a flower one could send to express that emotion.
Regardless of the reason, the act of gifting flowers is one of personal expression- it is subjective. To receive flowers, on the other hand, creates its own set of emotions for the recipient. Receiving flowers brings out the best in people. Flowers elevate our mood and remind us of the thoughtful expression of the giver. Receiving flowers helps to remind the recipient that they are loved, thought-after, cared for and respected. One seldom forgets the occasion one receives flowers. Flowers leave lasting impressions in our minds- when we first receive the flowers. For days or weeks after- we are reminded by sight, scent, and touch of the thoughtful gift. Gentle reminders continue whenever we see a bouquet of flowers, bringing to memory the thoughtfulness of the people we believe love and care for us wholeheartedly.
Gifting flowers is more than the act of giving – it’s an action of connecting. When you give someone flowers- you are gifting them a part of your emotional self because you are letting them know they are in your mind, and in your heart. Flowers are a beautiful, colorful way to express our deepest sentiments, regardless of whether it is affection, romance, love, joy, gratitude, appreciation, pride, thankfulness, sympathy, or even apology.
For a man to gift flowers to a woman; his reasons could be many, or few, and men have been giving women flowers for thousands of years. A tradition that has lasted this long is striking evidence that it is a great success. Flowers express love and kindle the connection between a man and woman. Men aren’t notoriously known as the more emotional of the sexes, and so they turn to flowers to help express what’s in their hearts and minds, the words they cannot say. Men send women flowers to show them how they feel, to express their affection; to revel in the idolatry of a woman’s beauty- by reminding her she is beautiful – with beautiful flowers. To tell a woman we love how she smells (by sending aromatic flowers), and feels (silky petals); how her smile lights up a room, and our lives- the same smile that widens across her face when she receives the flowers. More importantly, flowers act as a reminder of the connection between them- that she matters- and he wants her to know it. How apropos!
Flowers, is there anything they can’t do?
